news01.jpg (38953 bytes)During WISCONSIN's Persian Gulf deployment, media interest in the battleship and her mission was at an all-time high. During Operation Desert Shield; television, print and radio journalists along with photographers paid frequent visits to WISCONSIN, making the ship one of the most visible and well known Navy ships serving in the gulf.

The visiting news teams were not only from the U.S., but from around the world, including many journalists from the gulf states.

A highlight for the ship was being the platform for the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather. Rather did an entire news show from the ship's forecastle, with the ship's 16 inch guns as a backdrop.news02.jpg (39503 bytes)

Once Desert Storm had begun, the news coverage continued. A combat news team, including CNN's Carl Rochelle, covered the first hours of the war from WISCONSIN, sending images of her Tomahawk missiles back home to an awestruck nation.
